Fondation de l’ Ataxie Charlevoix-Saguenay
En 2006, la Fondation a été créée et a financé la première recherche sur l’ARSACS depuis l’identification du gène en 2000. Il était crucial d’entamer des recherches afin de découvrir un traitement pour ataxie récessive spastique autosomique de Charlevoix-Saguenay (ARSACS).
Depuis sa création, la Fondation a financé plusieurs projets de recherche liés à cette maladie neurologique. La Fondation est un organisme caritatif qui fonctionne exclusivement grâce à des dons privés et à l'engagement de bénévoles qui soutiennent cette cause.

Objectifs de la recherche
Le principal objectif de la Fondation de l’Ataxie Charlevoix-Saguenay est de développer un traitement pour l’ARSACS. Chaque année, la Fondation finance plusieurs projets de recherche au Canada et à l’étranger. Les efforts de la Fondation se concentrent actuellement dans trois grands domaines de recherche:
Financement de plusieurs projets de recherche avec des chercheurs experts dans ce domaine.
Former des partenariats avec d’autres organisations et sociétés pharmaceutiques pour approfondir la compréhension de cette maladie et mener des recherches indépendantes.

Conseil consultatif scientifique
Toutes les demandes de subventions de recherche sont évaluées par le Conseil consultatif scientifique de la Fondation de l'ataxie de Charlevoix-Saguenay selon des critères précis.
Subventions de recherche
Afin d’encourager et d’accélérer le développement d’un traitement pour l’ARSACS, la Fondation accorde des subventions et des opportunités à des chercheurs.
Cette année, l’appel d’offres de la Fondation de l’Ataxie Charlevoix-Saguenay est conjointement soutenu par le “Richardson Research Fund” pour financer la recherche sur l’ARSACS.
Dans le cadre de cette offre de financement, la Fondation de l’Ataxie Charlevoix-Saguenay en collaboration avec le “Richardson Trust Fund” poursuit son financement de projets pouvant atteindre jusqu’à 100 000 $ CAN par projet et jusqu’à 25 000 $ CAN par projet pour un financement de démarrage (Seed Grant).
